Revenge Season 3 Episode 03 “Confession” Review: Strange Bedfellows

Like Queequeg and Ishmael, nearly every character cozied up to someone seemingly incompatible this week. From Margeaux and Jack, to Emily and Conrad, to Patrick and Nolan, everyone is finding themselves in bed with someone extremely unlikely. And we thought Aiden and Victoria were a peculiar pair!

Sympathy for the Devil

I can understand Emily becoming close to Conrad after marrying Daniel, considering she lost her father when she was very young (though they’re unaware of exactly how) and probably needs a paternal figure in her life, but I found it a little inappropriate that she’s been spending so much time alone with her fiancee’s dad. I guess we know about her ulterior motives, but nobody else seems to think anything of it.

Though they didn’t have much to bond over at first besides Conrad’s illness, they’ll be able to commiserate with one another over their guilt for Father Paul’s death. Once again, Conrad will be completely transparent to Emily, and she’ll be hiding not only her desires for him to confess his crimes against David but her plan to blackmail Paul into coercing Conrad to do so. I said last week that one can’t call themselves a Grayson until Victoria has paid someone to hurt them, but I’d like to add to that. One cannot call themselves a Grayson until they’ve been behind the wheel in a car accident in which someone has ended up dead. Was it an accident, or did Conrad mean for Father Paul to die? I guess it’s an assumption that he’s dead, but I think they made it pretty clear.

Double Homewreckicide

I guess great minds think alike! Last week Margeaux put the moves on Daniel and now she’s all over Jack. It might be a coincidence, but we all know how rare those are on this show, so how exactly is she connected (other than being the Grayson’s Parisian friend), and what is she up to? We mustn’t forget that even lowly little Ashley played an important role in Emily’s flashbacks.

I think we all can agree that the oddest couple of the week was Patrick and Nolan. At first it looked as though Patrick was going to blow him off just like he did Emily, but something drew him to Nolan’s housewarming party, albeit late. Are they gonna hook up?! I guess he’s technically not a Grayson, but that would still be so weird, just due to the fact that he’s Victoria’s son and Nolan is one of her many, many, mortal enemies. Stranger things have happened on this series.

Aiden and Emily 4 Ever

Perhaps the least strange occurrence this week was our discovery that Aiden and Emily are still working together. I’m not a huge fan of all the gaps in their relationship, but YES YES YES! If you read my reviews last season, you’ll remember that I am a diehard member of Team Aiden, as far as Emily’s love interests go. Jack may own a bar, and Daniel may be filthy rich, but Aiden took a freaking bullet for Emily! That is so hot! It seems as though Daniel is mature enough not to let another man break up their engagement as easily as he did in season one, which is probably why we saw Emily in a wedding dress during the flashback in the premiere. Now that we know Aiden and Emily are a thing again (behind Nolan’s back, unfortunately), my money is on Jack or Daniel.

What did you think of this week’s episode? Did Conrad kill Father Paul on purpose? Who do you think will shoot Emily?
